The Garden Variety — 52-Week Year Plan
Date range assumption: Week 1 = January 5, 2026. Week 52 = January 3, 2027. As of the creation date (2026-05-22), the calendar is approximately 20 weeks in — Week 20 runs May 18–24. Weeks 1–20 are retroactive planning; weeks 21–52 are prospective. Brandyn should decide whether to align the live newsletter to this calendar from Week 21 forward, or reset Week 1 to a future date. Note this before locking.
Film/TV pairings: All agent-proposed. Brandyn has the original 52-week calendar on his Windows machine. Review each pairing and swap freely — the pairings below are research-backed but provisional. Criteria used: widely-known cultural touchpoints, mixed eras and genres across the year, thematic fit with the monthly essay theme.
This is the planning doc, not the drafts. Wave 2 (individual newsletter drafts) fires only after Brandyn locks this calendar. Mark swaps, remove bad pairings, fill [needs Brandyn] cells, then confirm. Each week entry is designed to be scannable on a phone.
Column key:
- S6 = Section 6 seed — the blunt one-liner in Brandyn's register (not Alan Watts)
- Cluster = Inoreader high-signal cluster tie-in (if natural; blank if forced)
- CTA = which product to soft-CTA at the end of this issue

Not every week uses a cluster. Photography is the lowest-tied (4 weeks) because the anchors are narrower. Marketing/SEO is the most used (9 weeks) because it spans funnel, launch, and advertising themes naturally. That balance feels right.
Notes for Brandyn
1. March has 5 Mondays. The extra week (Week 13, Mar 30) carries the Superfan theme. If that feels stretched, combine Weeks 12 and 13 or treat Week 13 as a transition bridge into the April Feedback theme.
2. June, August, and November also have 5 Mondays. Same approach — the extra week extends the theme or can be used as a review/reflection issue for that month's material.
3. Three pairings that may feel dated for a 2026 audience: Searching for Bobby Fischer (1993), The Bad News Bears (1976), It's a Wonderful Life (1946). All strong thematically but may need to be swapped for something that lands better with the specific subscriber base.
4. Section 6 seeds I'd mark most confident: Weeks 4, 11, 16, 17, 19, 23, 26, 30, 31, 33, 34, 46. These are plainspoken and in the right register.
5. Section 6 seeds I'd double-check: Weeks 39 ("most memorable ads in 2026" — slightly analytical, might feel like a think-piece line), 50 ("last ones to give up" — good but verify it sounds like Brandyn not like a motivational poster), 52 (the compound sentence might be better split into a beat).
6. The Autoresponder U months (April/August) are the lightest fit. The product is email automation; "developing feedback" and "developing your sales funnel" are the logical connections, but these months may undersell the product. Consider adding a sentence in the actual draft that makes the product feel inevitable, not bolted on.
7. Wave 2 trigger: After Brandyn approves or marks up this doc, the next dispatch creates the individual newsletter drafts. Each draft will use the film/TV pairing as Section 1 source material, this week's S6 seed as the target for Section 6, and the cluster tie-in as a current-events hook for the opening.
