LinkedIn Post: Everybody In the Room Is Doing a Job
Source: /opt/gcv-portfolio/captions/gfsWVu1umLI.en.vtt — GCV community/"roles" talk, ~00:06:21–00:08:30 (non-hierarchical roles: viewer / affiliate / partner / client)
I stopped thinking about the people around my work as a ladder a while ago. There's no rung order. A client is important, a partner is important, an affiliate is important, a viewer is important. A community that actually works needs all of them.
The viewer who never pays you a dime is still doing a job. They're the room. They show up, they open the email, they tell somebody about you. Anybody we meet is a friend of the show, and a network only works because of the people in it.
The person who signs the paperwork might spend the least amount of time with us. That's fine. They get to be priority one when it counts. But they're not above the person who hit like on something and sent it to their group chat.
Most people build the whole thing around landing one type of person, the buyer. Then they wonder why the room feels empty.
Who's in your room right now that you've been ignoring because they never paid you? Start there.
