LinkedIn Post: The Overhead You Don't Have
Source: /opt/gcv-portfolio/captions/XeFIPx4-nPY.en.vtt — GCV newsletter/update talk, ~00:31–01:20 (Worst Week Yet ep. 200 → super fans)
Kennedy Cooper just finished episode 200 of Worst Week Yet, and I spent a lot of the weekend talking to them about why a lot of organizations are just pooped.
They don't have the overhead to do a lot of stuff that one or two excited fans can do by themselves.
We've had super fans who helped us build our podcast, helped do editing, helped do volunteer outreach. It's great when you excite those people. And part of why it works is we always wanted to make things easier, because if somebody else is trying to help you, you want a system that incorporates that. Then it becomes super effective. A super system.
Most teams I see treat their most excited people like an audience instead of a bench. They ask them to like and share, then wonder why the place still feels understaffed.
You don't have a headcount problem. You have people who already love the thing and no door that lets them actually build it with you.
What's one job you'd hand to an excited fan tomorrow if you had a clean way to plug them in?
