Shannon Smith — Follow-Up Sequence
Contact: Shannon Smith — NSFW Podcast E122 guest
Context: Returned-citizen activist, educator, organizer. Atlanta.
Episode: E122 — "The Colonized Mentality"
First touch: Offered free 60-second reel — the $125/week, $60 left for food reentry math sequence (8:22–9:18). See /root/lilith-grove/registry/leads/drafts/nsfw-b1-shannon-smith.md.
This sequence: Picks up after first-touch email is sent, assuming no reply.
Touch 1 — Second clip delivery (~5–7 days after initial email)
Subject: Also cut the "skin is the currency" clip
Shannon,
>
Just checking you got my last note — the reel from the $125/week sequence. If it didn't come through, say so and I'll resend.
>
Also cut a second one. The segment starting around 1:41 in the episode — "Your skin is the currency that they're trading." 36 seconds. Different feel from the first clip — it's less about the specific math and more about the structural thing underneath it. Works as a standalone if you're doing any content about systemic bias or the prison labor setup specifically.
>
Both are yours. No strings on either.
>
Brandyn
~90 words. Delivers a second concrete asset. "Your skin is the currency" is real — from the clip map at Clip 1, 1:41–2:17. Confirm both clips are ready before sending.
Touch 2 — Speaking engagement format (~2 weeks after Touch 1)
Subject: A different version — for speaking, not scrolling
Shannon,
>
Separate thought: the reel I sent is formatted for Instagram. If you're doing any speaking — panels, community events, trainings — there's a version that works better for rooms.
>
A projector cut is wider, the audio mix is different because you're not competing with earbuds, and the pacing changes a little so it reads on a big screen. I can do that version too. About 30 extra minutes of work on my end.
>
No cost. Just mention it if you're coming up on an event where that'd be useful.
>
Brandyn
~85 words. Concrete free asset — a format she probably hasn't thought to ask for. Only send if Brandyn can actually deliver the speaking-formatted cut. The offer is real, not a teaser.
Touch 3 — Juneteenth hook (~3 weeks after Touch 2, roughly early June)
Subject: The Juneteenth timing on this
Shannon,
>
Juneteenth is June 19. The connection between prison labor, the 13th Amendment carve-out, and what you laid out in the episode — "skin is the currency they're trading" — that's not a stretch as a Juneteenth-week post. It's direct.
>
If you want to time the clip for that week, the 36-second "skin is the currency" cut is the right one for that moment. Compact enough to stand alone, and the subject matter lands exactly.
>
Worth thinking about if you're doing anything for Juneteenth this year.
>
Brandyn
~85 words. Seasonal hook with a real connection — 13th Amendment exception for criminal punishment is exactly Shannon's territory. Not a manufactured angle. Send this one in early June if Touch 1 and 2 got no reply.
Touch 4 — Referral ask (~2–3 weeks after Touch 3)
Subject: Anyone in the reentry space I should know?
Shannon,
>
I've been thinking about who else in Atlanta is doing criminal justice and reentry work who doesn't have good video. Organizations, educators, organizers — people doing real work who don't show up on camera or don't have anyone to help them show up.
>
If there's someone you'd refer me to, I'd appreciate it. Even just a name.
>
Brandyn
~60 words. Referral ask, low friction, specific to her world. No list of options, no big pitch — one sentence of context, one ask.
Touch 5 — Graceful close (~4–6 weeks after Touch 4, if still no reply)
Subject: Last note from me for a while
Shannon,
>
Not going to keep pinging you. The clips are still yours whenever you want them — Juneteenth timing, later, whenever. The door's open on producing more if that ever makes sense.
>
Your episode was one of the ones that stayed with me. That's true whether we ever work together or not.
>
Brandyn
~55 words. No recap, no ask, no wrap-up. The last two sentences only work because they're true — E122 was a real conversation about real math from Shannon's real life. Don't send this if you can't mean it.
Sequence notes
- Drop the sequence the moment she replies. Any response restarts as a real conversation — don't send the next scheduled touch.
- Touch 1 timing: only send if both clips are actually cut. Don't promise a clip and say "I'll send it soon."
- Touch 3 — Juneteenth: this works in early-to-mid June 2026. After June 19 it's stale. If you're past that window, skip it and move directly to Touch 4.
- The clips are the whole offer. Every touch in this sequence either delivers an asset or opens a door. Nothing in here is "just checking in." If it starts to feel like pestering, cut it short and go to Touch 5 early.
- Don't fabricate client context. "Skin is the currency" and the reentry math sequence are both real clips from real timestamps in E122. Those are the proof. Don't invent other advocacy clients or outcomes to strengthen the pitch.
- Downstream asks not in this sequence:
- Ongoing clip production retainer — hold for after she's responded and engaged. Too early cold.
- Guest referrals to NSFW — separate conversation, not an email ask.
- Social proof or testimonial — comes after she's posted the clip and had a result.
