Context
Poor Hendrix's name is the whole story in miniature. It's named after the Russells' rescue pit-bull, Hendrix, pulled off the euthanasia list at DeKalb Animal Services in 2012 as a skinny, scabby, nearly hairless puppy. He survived mange, parvo, a seizure disorder, and a diagnosis of immune-mediated polyarthritis before he died in 2019. Every time Aaron and Jamie gave someone an update on the dog, the reply was the same: "Aww, poor Hendrix." The name for the restaurant was born.
Behind the name are two people who built the room the slow way. Aaron and Jamie met as teenagers — Aaron making pizzas, Jamie waiting tables at a local Italian place. Aaron worked through Nikolai's Roof, Seeger's, The Dining Room, and Restaurant Eugene, made a name as a pastry chef with five James Beard nominations and a Rising Star Chef award, then after a 2013 trip to Spain and France the couple bet it all on a quiet old building at Hosea & 2nd in a neighborhood they already loved.
A page can carry the tagline — "honest, humble food and drink in a comfortable neighborhood atmosphere" — and the menu images. It can't show the two people who run the place, the room during service, or the regulars who make it a neighborhood. That's the part that's a video, not a paragraph.
The offer: A free 60–90 second piece, their call on what to capture — the room during service, the two of them, the regulars. They own the footage, no strings on the first piece.
What I have: The owners' names and full origin story, verified from the site this session. No direct email for either owner and no named manager — the published inbox is poorhendrix@gmail.com, so the greeting is "Aaron and Jamie" but the message lands in a general box. Every fact above is from poorhendrix.com this session.

Subject: A free 60–90 second reel for Poor Hendrix
Aaron and Jamie —
Poor Hendrix is named after a rescue pit-bull. Hendrix came off the euthanasia list at DeKalb Animal Services in 2012, survived parvo and a seizure disorder, and every update came back the same: "Aww, poor Hendrix." The name stuck.
The site can carry the tagline: honest, humble food in a comfortable neighborhood atmosphere. It can't show the two of you who built it. Aaron worked through Nikolai's Roof and Seeger's to five James Beard nominations and a Rising Star Chef award, then bet it on a room at Hosea & 2nd.
I shoot short documentary reels in Atlanta, Ghost Coast Video. I'd like to shoot a free 60–90 second piece, your call what to capture. You own the footage, no strings on the first one.

Hey — Ghost Coast Video, I shoot short documentary reels in Atlanta.
Poor Hendrix is named after a rescue pit-bull who survived parvo and a seizure disorder; every update came back "Aww, poor Hendrix," and the name stuck. The site can list the tagline, but it can't show Aaron and Jamie, the room at Hosea & 2nd, or the neighbors in it. I'd like to shoot a free 60–90 second reel. You own the footage, no strings on the first one.
Worth a message back?

Before sending
1. Email goes to poorhendrix@gmail.com — the only published inbox (site footer). The owners Aaron and Jamie Russell are named on the site, so the greeting "Aaron and Jamie" is real, but there is no direct address for either and no separate marketing/events/GM contact anywhere on the site. The message lands in a general box. If Brandyn can pull a direct owner or manager address (or a name from LinkedIn), address that person instead; otherwise the owners-by-name greeting to the published inbox is the honest version.
2. Org verified active this session. poorhendrix.com is live (Squarespace) with a Current Menu page carrying menu images stamped through 2026-09-11 — the most recent is "PH Menu - 2026-09-11T152107.538.png", two days before this tick, so the site is actively maintained in 2026. The 2371 Hosea L Williams Dr NE, Atlanta GA 30317 address and the poorhendrix@gmail.com inbox are both confirmed in the footer.
3. The hook is the dog-name origin story, not a menu recital. The full story — Hendrix "saved from the euthanasia list at Dekalb Animal Services in 2012," surviving mange, parvo, a seizure disorder, and immune-mediated polyarthritis, and "Aww, poor Hendrix" becoming the restaurant's name — is on the "What's in a name?" page verbatim. Lead there. It's the most specific, warm, human detail on the site.
4. James Beard — characterize it precisely, don't inflate it. The site's own words: Aaron "earning 5 James Beard nominations and a Rising Star Chef award." Those are five nominations, not wins, and the "Rising Star Chef" is a separate award, not a James Beard award. The copy says "five James Beard nominations and a Rising Star Chef award" for exactly this reason. Do not write "James Beard winner" or "five-time James Beard Rising Star Chef nominations."
5. Owners and chef pedigree verified, not assumed. Aaron and Jamie Russell (husband and wife) met as teenagers — Aaron making pizzas, Jamie waiting tables at a local Italian restaurant. Aaron's restaurant lineage (Nikolai's Roof, Seeger's, The Dining Room, Restaurant Eugene) and the 2013 Spain-and-France trip that sparked opening their own place are all on the "Who is Poor Hendrix?" page.
6. The space and neighborhood. The site describes the location as "the space at Hosea & 2nd... a quaint, old building, full of charm, located in a vibrant, diverse, up-and-coming neighborhood they already loved." The row calls the neighborhood "East Lake" and the address is 2371 Hosea L Williams Dr NE with a 30317 zip (which is Kirkwood). The site itself never names the neighborhood — it just says "Hosea & 2nd." Flagged for Brandyn: confirm East Lake vs. Kirkwood before sending if the neighborhood name matters in the copy (I kept the copy to "Hosea & 2nd," which is what the site itself says).
7. Handles confirmed from the site footer, not guessed. instagram.com/poorhendrix and facebook.com/poorhendrix are linked in the footer. (A direct Instagram fetch is login-walled this session, so the site's own links are the source of truth — they are the canonical handles, not assumptions.) Both match the row's "IG @poorhendrix · FB."
8. Tagline. "Honest, humble food and drink in a comfortable neighborhood atmosphere" is the site's masthead line. The "Who is Poor Hendrix?" section's own framing — "a resilient, loveable dog... a couple with a dream... patrons and neighbors that provide a sense of community" — is the human-side angle the pitch leans on.
9. Word counts: ~125 words email body, ~80 words DM. The email runs slightly over the 120-word template cap (the dog-story hook earns the extra words), and both are well under the 200-word hard cap. Trim if Brandyn wants it tighter.
10. Keep distinct from the other restaurant drafts, and no fabricated anything. Food Terminal (F10) is the immigrant-founder Malaysian story; The Lost Druid (F11) is the woman-owned solar brewstillery with a standing community calendar; Leon's (C13) is the Decatur 1920s-gas-station gastropub; Breaker Breaker (E10) is the Reynoldstown BeltLine patio bar. Poor Hendrix's own story is the rescue-pit-bull name, the husband-and-wife partnership, and Aaron's pastry pedigree. Do not reuse their copy; do not batch-send with F13. Poor Hendrix is a cold prospect, not a client — no invented sales figures, star ratings, review scores, or testimonials. No AI attribution.

- 2026-09-13: draft written by night-shift worker. Verified Poor Hendrix active and real — poorhendrix.com live (Squarespace) with a Current Menu page carrying menu images stamped through 2026-09-11. Confirmed the husband-and-wife owners Aaron and Jamie Russell, the dog-name origin story (named after their rescue pit-bull Hendrix, saved from the euthanasia list at DeKalb Animal Services in 2012), Aaron's pastry pedigree (Nikolai's Roof, Seeger's, The Dining Room, Restaurant Eugene) and the "5 James Beard nominations and a Rising Star Chef award" line (nominations, not wins; Rising Star is a separate award), the "honest, humble food and drink in a comfortable neighborhood atmosphere" tagline, the 2371 Hosea L Williams Dr NE, Atlanta GA 30317 address, and the poorhendrix@gmail.com inbox. No separate marketing/events/GM contact is published, but the owners are named, so the greeting is "Aaron and Jamie." Confirmed handles from the site footer (IG instagram.com/poorhendrix, FB facebook.com/poorhendrix). Enriched the F12 channel cell (30317 zip + FB full handle + named owners) and marked F12 drafted. Flagged for Brandyn: the site says "Hosea & 2nd" and the 30317 zip is Kirkwood, while the row says East Lake — confirm the neighborhood naming before sending. Awaiting Brandyn review before sending.
