Context
The James Room is a Black-owned, dual-concept spot on Auburn Ave: a café out front by day (the site lists "Cafe Hours — Sunday–Saturday 8am–5pm," enter through the front), and at night an "intimate hidden cocktail lounge" behind a door. The venue is deliberate about not being called a speakeasy — their own copy: "We aren't a quiet and boring speakeasy. We're a spirited cocktail lounge." Music is central to the room: curated pop, hip-hop, r&b, reggaeton, and soul, DJ sets on Sundays ("Off The Record"), Tuesday live sets, and cocktail programming built around the "less is more" one-to-two-flavor mantra. It sits at 661 Auburn Ave, on the Sweet Auburn corridor — Atlanta's civil-rights-era Black business district, the street of Ebenezer Baptist and the King Center, the densest story corridor in the city.
The video angle is the two-face story: the same address that's a quiet café at 8am is a loud, music-driven lounge by midnight, behind a door, on one of the most historically loaded streets in Atlanta. A directory listing shows hours and a menu. It can't show a room that's two rooms, or the corridor it sits on. That's the thing video is built for, and it's the hook.
The offer: A free 60–90 second reel, their call on the day — the café face, the lounge that comes alive after dark, the street itself. They own the footage, no strings on the first piece.
What I don't have: A direct inbox. There's no published email anywhere — the only channels are Instagram @thejamesroom, the phone, and OpenTable. The IG account is a social-team surface, so the greeting stays generic. Harold Brinkley is the named owner across third-party sources but isn't named on the current site, so I don't address him by name in a cold touch.

Hey — Ghost Coast Video, I shoot short documentary film for Atlanta bars.
The James Room's the café up front and the hidden lounge behind the door after dark, on Auburn Ave. That's a story a listing can't tell. I'd like to shoot a free 60–90 second reel, your call on the day. You own the footage, no strings on the first one.
Worth a message back?

Subject: The room behind the door on Auburn Ave
Hey The James Room —
A café up front, and behind a door a hidden cocktail lounge that comes alive when the lights go down. On Auburn Ave, in the Sweet Auburn corridor — Atlanta's civil-rights-era Black business district. Two rooms, one address, and most of that story never makes it into a listing.
I make short documentary video in Atlanta, Ghost Coast Video. I'd like to shoot a free 60–90 second piece on The James Room. Your call on the day, you own the footage, no strings on the first one.
Worth a reply?

Word count: ~90 words. Good.
Before sending
1. No published email — Instagram DM is the real channel. thejamesroom.com publishes no email address anywhere (checked this session). Contact routes are Instagram @thejamesroom, phone 678-705-8381, and OpenTable reservations, plus a subscribe-only signup form. The email above is written for if/when an address surfaces; don't send it to a guessed address. Lead with the DM.
2. Owner name confirmed by third parties, not the site. Harold Brinkley is named as owner by AtlantaEats (2020 acquisition) and Urbanoire. The current site only shows the operator (Juxtapose Hospitality Group Inc., © 2023). Greeting stays "Hey The James Room" — do not address Brinkley by name in a cold touch unless Brandyn confirms him.
3. They call themselves a cocktail lounge, not a speakeasy. Their own copy rejects the quiet-speakeasy label ("We're a spirited cocktail lounge"). I used "hidden cocktail lounge" / "hidden lounge," not "speakeasy." Keep it that way.
4. "Black-owned" is verified but not on their site. SavorBlk lists it as a "hidden Black-owned bar"; The Infatuation includes it in their Atlanta Black-Owned Restaurants directory; AtlantaEats names it #6 of "10 Top Black-Owned Bars, Lounges & Clubs." I did not lead the cold message with ownership — it's a targeting fact, not a message hook, and leading with it in a cold note risks reading as checkbox outreach. Instead I referenced the corridor as Atlanta's civil-rights-era Black business district, which is factual and ties the venue to the street rather than asserting its ownership back to them. Brandyn can decide if he wants the Black-owned angle in.
5. The hidden-door detail can be sharpened. The Infatuation describes entering "through doors disguised as bookshelves" into the hidden lounge. I kept it generic ("behind a door") since the bookshelf detail is a third-party description; if Brandyn confirms it's still accurate, "behind the bookshelf door" is a stronger, more specific beat.
6. The venue is active and real, verified this session. thejamesroom.com is live; OpenTable reservations are live; the Instagram feed is current (a Nov 13 "Honor Hour" bourbon night with Master Blender Tracie Franklin, Tuesday sets, Sunday "Off The Record" DJ nights, a Notorious B.I.G. tribute). Current hours: cafe 8am–5pm daily; bar Mon closed, Tue 5pm–12am, Wed/Thu 5pm–1am, Fri/Sat 5pm–2am, Sun 5pm–10pm.
7. Keep distinct from the other drafts. Our Bar ATL (E11) is the values/mission angle ("champions Atlanta's diversity"). Sister Louisa's (C3) is the folk-art church bar that's impossible to explain. Sweet Auburn Works is the corridor-org (Reconnecting Sweet Auburn / the I-75-85 repair). This one is the dual-concept + location angle — café by day, hidden lounge by night, on Sweet Auburn. Don't reuse their copy, don't batch-send.
8. No fabricated relationships or metrics. The James Room is a cold prospect, not a client. No AI attribution. Word counts: ~90 in the email body, ~70 in the DM — both under cap.
Status log
- 2026-09-13: draft written by night-shift worker; verified the venue is active and real (thejamesroom.com live with current cafe/bar hours, OpenTable reservations, and a current Instagram feed); confirmed the real channel is IG
@thejamesroom(footer "Follow Us Now") and that no email is published; confirmed Black-owned (SavorBlk, Infatuation directory, AtlantaEats) and owner Harold Brinkley (AtlantaEats/Urbanoire, not on the current site). Enriched the E12 channel cell with the real IG handle and flagged the no-email situation. Hook is the dual-concept/location angle — café up front, hidden lounge behind the door, on the Sweet Auburn corridor — not the values angle (Our Bar) or the "impossible to explain" angle (Sister Louisa's). Awaiting Brandyn review before sending.
